Princess Theatre, Torbay

The Princess Theatre opened for the first time in 1961 and on the opening night top of the bill were the legends that are Morecambe and Wise and Tommy Cooper. It was built by the Torbay Council and is included in the plans for redevelopment of the seafront area at Princess Gardens. Before the theatre, there was a marquee that was erected on a yearly basis and was home to light entertainment. As anyone who has been to a seaside resort theatre will know, there is usually a Summer Season of shows including variety shows and light entertainment for different age groups.

However over the years, in addition to the usual fare, there have been 6 week runs of former West End shows such as Chicago, Grease, Blues Brothers Boogie Nights and Jason and His Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Whatever you fancy doing while visiting the English Riviera, you will never be bored. Even if you just want to take some time out and relax with the sea air and sound of the sea rolling over the sand at one of the many beaches.
